Our Innate Neuropsychological Drives

The very Drives of consciousness.
The Drives that dictate every thought, feeling, behavior,
and the specific ways they compel us to grow.

Our Drives Govern Every Decision, Craving, and Reaction We Have

Whether it’s the impulse to choose one shirt over another, quit a job, binge-watch a show, reach for another drink, or refresh the news for the hundredth time—these seemingly small or irrational behaviors are anything but random. They reveal deeper forces at work. Drives are not just relevant to psychology—they’re essential to being human.

They allow us to know—with tremendous precision—what we are truly needing or yearning for: why one therapy works and another doesn’t, why one person heals quickly while another stays stuck, even after years. It gives us a neuropsychological understanding of what people are really seeking—not just emotionally, but physiologically, behaviorally, and spiritually.

A Psychology as Precise as Physics

Our clear understanding of each Drive of consciousness governing all feeling, thinking and behavior transforms psychology from an abstract, esoteric field into a precise discipline—as measurable and systematic as physics or biology.

The blurred boundaries between psychology and spirituality are no longer vague concepts but part of a unified framework grounded in fundamental truths about human nature.

There is a direct link between our urges and our physiology. Every craving, compulsion, and emotion is tied to a precise neurochemical pattern.

By tracing the connection between our Drives and the neurochemical reactions they trigger, we uncover what really fuels addiction, mental disorders, and different forms of happiness.

Chemical substances hijack the body’s natural processes, mimicking the very feelings we yearn for. Our cravings—whether for substances or experiences—pinpoint where we’re either stuck or ready to grow. That’s why this system doesn’t just explain what’s happening—it offers new pathways to address the real roots of cravings and support lasting healing and growth.

Our Drives are our Compass

What if the urge to binge-watch Netflix or even a craving for heroin isn’t a weakness, but a healthy instinct orienting us to something deeper we truly need?

At the core of who we are lies our universal Drives—undeniable forces that propel our behavior, emotions, and relationships toward profound psychological and spiritual growth. Our needs, feelings or Drives, often dismissed as flaws or inconveniences, are in fact an irrefutable compass, guiding us toward what we need for health, fulfillment, and wholeness.

Transformation happens when we use—not suppress—our Drives.

Our therapeutic approach harnesses these truths in a way that feels both revolutionary and inevitable. By leveraging the client’s innate Drives rather than suppressing them, the therapy eliminates the struggle to fight against oneself. Growth—even out of severe disorders and addictions—becomes a natural and sustainable process. Clients remain authentic, true to themselves, which provides them with an experience of transformation that feels effortless, as their deepest tendencies and passions are catalyzed to propel them forward.

Personal Emergence and True Engagement

Accepting what we truly want can be uncomfortable and even make us feel vulnerable.  The realization that we need something deeper than what our life is currently offering, or that we have neglected a vital part of ourselves, can be unsettling. But it is also the key to living a life that feels authentic and personal. This is when life stops feeling like a series of reactive moments and becomes something vivid, exciting, and true to who we are.

Emergence: From Survival to Full Engagement

It is through feeling and honoring our Drives that we find ourselves not just surviving, but truly thriving. Life becomes about our personal emergence—one in which we are fully engaged, passionately driven, and empowered to pursue our deepest desires. Listening to our Drives makes us feel driven: aligned with our purpose and engaged with life.

Our Drives Direct Us to the Specific Spiritual Experiences Critical for Our Health

It’s a common notion that spirituality is an “extra bonus” in one’s life—reserved for religious settings, with profound experiences framed as rare luxuries or fleeting moments. But in reality, we hunger for them constantly, requiring them as much as food and air. These are not abstract ideals but critical spiritual needs that our physiology depends on. Deprived of these exhilarating, transcendental, and peaceful encounters, we fall prey to anxiety, compulsions, and struggle. Our therapy program challenges the age-old assumption that any of our innate Drives are misguided or flawed rather than brilliantly intelligent and deeply spiritual, revealing instead a new perspective on human nature that shows how our spiritual yearning is necessary, practical, and deeply affirming.

Our Nature is Never Misguided or Flawed

At the Institute for Emergence, we’re applying a discovery that brings unprecedented precision to psychology, behavior, and human development. Our knowledge of the innate intelligence of the psychology allows us to see the healthy nature of a person beneath conditions like PTSD and addiction. The person's nature is healthy and guided by meaningful yearnings—but they simply haven’t learned how to develop those specific yearnings. Each problem, addiction, and disorder requires a different kind of development.

What happens when we don’t support our Drives?
